چکیده

Abstract Background The irrational use of carbapenems in the last years lead to emergence carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE). This study aimed at determining prevalence CRE intestinal carriage among admitted patients a tertiary care hospital Egypt, characterize carbapenemase-producing genes and identify possible risk factors colonization. One hundred rectal swabs were collected from within 48 h admission. Culture was done on chromogenic media then identification antibiotic susceptibility testing using Vitek 2 compact system. Carbapenemase production confirmed by Rapidec Carba NP test multiplex PCR for bla OXA-48-like , NDM-like VIM-like IMP-like KPC-like . Results A total number 36 isolates recovered 28 patients. Thus, colonization 28%. Escherichia coli (83%), followed Klebsiella pneumoniae (17%) main species. History recent hospitalization prior intake statistically significant predisposing gave positive results 29/36 isolates, whereas seven negative results; six them harbored Overall, detected 24/36 (66.7%), 11/36 (30.6%) lastly 1/36 (2.8%). Conclusions Our findings confirm that is disseminating our healthcare facility, fact should be considered as pathogens causing infections high Strict infection control measures applied all carriers admission proper antimicrobial stewardship program clinical settings.

blaKPC gene Detection in Clinical Isolates of Carbapenem Resistant Enterobacteriaceae in a Tertiary Care Hospital.

INTRODUCTION Carbapenem resistance among Enterobacteriaceae, especially in Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli, is an emerging problem worldwide. A common mechanism of carbapenem resistance is the production of class-A, Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC). AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The present study focused on determining the antibiotic resistance pattern and prevalence of bla KPC gene...

Detection of Carbapenem Resistant Gram-Negative Bacteria in Clinical Isolates from a Tertiary Care Hospital

Multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria are a major public health threat. However, intense efforts to limit their spread, the number of multidrug resistant Gram-negative bacteria continues to increase globally. Carbapenems, the most broad-spectrum beta lactam antibiotics active against Gram-negative organisms, are very slowly hydrolyzed by most beta-lactamases. Because of their broad-spectru...

Detection of Metallo-Beta-lactamase Production in Rare Carbapenem-Resistant Non-fermentative Gram-Negative Bacilli Isolated in a Tertiary Care Hospital, Visakhapatnam, India

Introduction: Non-fermentative Gram-negative bacilli (NFGNB) are occasionally involved in infectious diseases pathology, but have shown resistance to multiple antibiotics and the capability to gain new resistance factors in the hospital environment. The present study was aimed to investigate the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of rare NFGNB isolated from different clinical samples and the pre...
